First, I'll recommend you go to your device manager to check if your printer has a problem. You can do this by going to your start menu - right click my computer - select properties (which will bring up your system properties) - select the hardware tab - then select device manager. Collapse ';disk drive'; in other verify your printer is listed and doesn't have any yellow icon or caution sign. If it does have one, you need to re-configure your device again. You can try to re-install your device by right clicking your computer while on device manager window.
Depending on your type of printer, but most of them require you install the driver for it to function. Go to your printer manufacturer website and download the required driver that matches your printer model in other for it to work properly. Also, you might be able to use windows update to search for any related driver for your device; but majority of the time.. windows won't find it and would then recommend you to go get it from your device manufacturer.
If you have the setup disc that came with your printer; use that to re-configure your device and make sure to have it selected as your default printer. For more info.. just visit your device manufacturer; you should find some more troubleshooting help there.
In addition, if you do not have the setup disc that came with your printer; I'll recommend that when you go to your device manufacturer to download the driver you need.. be sure to save it to a blank disc so you have a copy, it might come handy some day. goodluck!
